RPL stands for Recognition of Prior Learning.
It’s a process used in education, training, and professional registration to recognize and formally assess the skills, knowledge, and experience that a person has gained through work experience, informal training, or life experience, rather than through formal study.
Purpose
RPL allows individuals who do not have formal qualifications to gain access, credits, or recognition towards a qualification or professional designation — if they can prove competence through evidence.
The SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions) uses RPL to allow experienced professionals without formal construction-related degrees to apply for registration — provided they can demonstrate equivalent competence through their experience and evidence.
Process
The (Recognition of Prior Learning) RPL route of application follows three (3) phases:
In the first (1st) phase/ Eligibility:
- Create a profile through our website, Go to (MyPCM or MyCHS).
- Submit CV, qualifications, and ID copy.
- Review competencies acquired. If perceived competent applicants will receive a notification of Approved or rejected.
The second (2nd) phase:
- Compile and submit the Portfolio of Evidence as per the prescribed format.
- The POE assessed by our competent RPL assessors.
The third (3rd) phase:
- Oral Assessment/interview
- Applicants will then receive an RPL Certificate(in leu of a registration qualification) which will be used to apply for Professional eligibility through our registration department.
