Professional Construction Manager Criteria
Construction Management is the management of the physical construction process within the built environment and includes the co-ordination, administration, and management of resources. The Construction Manager is the one point of responsibility in this process.
An applicant who wishes to apply for registration as a Professional Construction Manager (Pr. CM) shall possess one of the following:
- An accredited Honours degree in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of four (4) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience
- An accredited B-Tech qualification in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience.
- An accredited National Higher Diploma in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of six (6) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience.
- An accredited National Diploma in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience.
Note: In case where a person does not possess a qualification and has more than ten (10) years’ relevant practical experience, the Recognition of Prior Learning route (RPL) is recommended

CCM CATEGORY
Candidate Construction Manager Criteria
Construction Management is the management of the physical construction process within the built environment and includes the co-ordination, administration, and management of resources. The Construction Manager is the one point of responsibility in this process.
Applicants applying for a Candidate Category is a newly graduate with accredited Built Environment qualification or Recognized Built Environment qualifications (Below is a list of accredited qualifications and recognized qualifications) or someone with relevant Built Environment qualification who just ventured into the terrain of Construction Management or Construction Project Management.
You do not have to register as Candidate when you have sufficient relevant practical experience as Construction Project Manager or Construction Manager. (Please see the link for Professional Registration Criteria.)
If you opt to register as Candidate, you will be expected to complete your Candidacy period you are recommended for.
Please note that you cannot be registered as a Candidate if you do not have relevant qualification in Built Environment.
An applicant who wishes to apply for registration as Candidate Construction Manager (C. CM) shall possess the following:

Construction Project Management is the management of the physical construction process within the built environment from conception to completion, including management of related professional services. The Construction Project Manager is the one point of responsibility in this process.
An applicant who wishes to apply for registration as a Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr. CPM) shall possess one of the following:
- An accredited Honours degree in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of four (4) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience.
- An accredited B-Tech qualification in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience.
- An accredited National Higher Diploma in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of six (6) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience.

Applicants applying for a Candidate Category is a newly graduate with accredited Built Environment qualification or Recognized Built Environment qualifications (Below is a list of accredited qualifications and recognized qualifications) or someone with relevant Built Environment qualification who just ventured into the terrain of Construction Management or Construction Project Management.

PROFESSIONAL CONSTRUCTION MENTORS
Construction Mentorship is the evaluation and assessment of a contractor’s skills, identification of the contractor’s shortcomings and the provision of suitable relevant professional advice to the contractor to address these shortcomings to achieve the contractor’s potential. An applicant who wishes to apply for registration as a Professional Construction Mentor (Pr. CMentor) should:
- be registered in terms of any of the built environment professions acts or to demonstrate an equivalent level of expertise; and
- have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry at a senior management level
- be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and experience in technical, commercial and project management competencies
- demonstrate suitability to act as a mentor following a compulsory psychometric test; and
- be verified as competent in the transfer skills and knowledge by means of a professional interview
Competence required to qualify as a Professional Construction Mentor:
- The ability to transfer skills and assess a contractor’s capabilities
- Competence in construction contract administration
- Technical competence in one or more construction disciplines
- Competence in commercial aspects of contracting
- Competence in construction project management
